Public Lectures by Geshe Kyab

Visiting TKC for the First Time.

The Three Principal Aspects of the Buddhist Path

This class presents an excellent introduction and overview to the Tibetan Buddhist system and philosophy. The teaching is based on a short poem composed by Lama Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), the founder of the Gelugpa lineage and tutor to the first Dalai Lama. In these short lines, Lama Tsongkhapa covers the entire process of achieving enlightenment. Because of its brevity and profound depth, The Three Principal Aspects of the Path is taught all over the world to new students and advanced practitioners alike.

Balancing Pleasure and Practice – The Peacock in the Poison Grove (from the Wheel of Sharp Weapons)

This lecture is based on The Wheel of Sharp Weapons, one of the most esteemed and celebrated Buddhist teachings, composed by the great Indian yogi Dharmarakshita (c. 10th Century). Although the title is intimidating, this teaching is really about the suffering that we cause ourselves in pursuit of selfish goals. But like the beautifal peacock who is able to eat poisonous plants, a true practitioner can turn the dangerous pleasures of this world into the tools of spiritual practice.
